ICC KARAOKE NIGHTS

Bollywood Music until the 80s was dominated by five singers. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh, Mohd. Rafi and Kishore Kumar. The predominant singers in the 90s were Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, and Anuradha Paudwal. However, the new millennium did not have ‘default’ or dominant singers. This gave opportunities to many singers whose popularity peaked for a short time but could never dominate for decades like the previous millennium.

Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, KK, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Mika Singh, Monali Thakur, Sukhvinder Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Mohit Chauhan, Mamta Sharma Ankit Tiwari are some names that come to mind. Shreya Ghosal is perhaps the only dominant playback singer in the new millennium and Arijit Singh is getting there.
