Classical dance is as a mimetic, recitative art of story-telling. The story-telling aspects gives the dancer certain privileges over other dance forms. He has the liberty to communicate verbally to his audience. A dancer often uses this informal mode of communication to draw the audience closer into his magic world.

This class focuses on beautiful semi-classical Kathak based choreography. It will be easy to catch and fun to do. You will learn Kathak movements in very less time and the songs will be melodious. You will improve your confidence to dance anywhere and songs can be performed at various occasions. It will surely broaden you dancing horizons and you will see a difference in your other dance forms as well. You will get more graceful and be able to do cleaner movements.
We will teach Kathak footwork, hand gestures, technical compositions and some theory. The teaching will focus on introducing different aspects of the dance form such as sense of rhythm, musicality, performance, etc. This will help kids form a foundation for the upcoming sessions. This will improve their stance, grace, self-confidence and performance qualities. By year end they will be able to relate with Kathak more and be ready with their year one syllabus.
The Founder, Director and lead instructor of Vishilp Performing Arts Company known by her creative name Vishilp, has been into dancing from the age of 4. Trained in various styles of dancing such as Kathak, Bollywood, Rajasthani, Freestyle and Bhangra, she holds double Visharad in Kathak, was awarded the prestigious scholarship from the Ministry of Cultural affairs India for 10 years, has been bestowed by the titles such as “Nritya Shri” & “Nritya Mani”& by the State Governments of India as Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and has won many National and International Dance and Drama competitions. Performing in Lucknow gharana style of Kathak, she has always been complimented for her unique expressions and impeccable techniques. She loves to incorporate all styles in her choreographies and is known for spellbinding presence on stage.
She is passionate about teaching and loves to choreograph new ideas in every act. She is adept
at handling all age groups and is liked by all because of her charming and composed demeanor. Students find it very easy to connect with her and admire her creative approach to teaching even
when the choreography gets tougher.
She graduated from University of Indianapolis with a MBA degree and has a Bachelors in
Computer Science Engineering.
Shilpi is also a proud mother of a beautiful baby boy and is greatly supported by her husband in all her endeavors.
